PC, EH earn wins; Tigers fall

KINGWOOD – Preston defeated Elkins 21-20 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action.

Tyler Shreve had five hits, while Colby Gainer chipped in with four hits for the Tigers (1-7).

Clayton Collett had three hits for Elkins.

Silas Gibson took the loss for the Tigers.

“We hit the ball well tonight,”?Elkins head coach Adam Roth said. “We just need a complete effort.”

Elkins travels to Lincoln tonight at 4:30 p.m. for a Big 10 Conference tilt.

Pendleton?County 10, Pocahontas County 5

DUNMORE -Luke Yokum had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Pendleton?County past Pocahontas County 10-5 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Andrew Thompson added three hits and an RBI, while Evan Arrington chipped in with a two-run double for the Wildcats (6-4,5-0 PVC).

Daniel Hevener and Jesse Lambert chipped in with tow hits each for Pendleton?County.

Brandon?Hammons took the loss for the Warriors in five innings of work.

Wes Felton had two hits for Pocahontas County.

The Warriors host Bath County (Va.) Thursday at 4 p.m.

Pendleton?County entertains Moorefield tonight at 7 p.m.

East Hardy 15, Union 3

BAKER – Korey Foltz and Justin Basye had two hits each and RBIs to lead East Hardy past Union 15-3 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Foltz also had a home run for the Cougars (7-5, 5-0).

Tyler Mongold had a two-run homer for East Hardy.

Carson Whetzel notched the win for the Cougars in two innings of relief. He gave up two runs, two hits and struck out two.

East Hardy host Paw Paw tonight for a double-header at 4:30 p.m. in a Potomac Valley Conference tilt.

High School Softball

KINGWOOD – Amy Fincham had three hits and an RBI and scored two runs to lead Elkins past Preston 11-0 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action.

Kelsi Trippett and Madison?Collett had two hits, scored two runs each, while Hailey Collins had two hits and three RBIs for the Lady Tigers (3-4).

Michaela Lewis-Lambert had two hits and two RBIs, while Kari Rudiger had two hits and two RBIs for Elkins.

Lewis-Lambert picked up the win for EHS?in three innings of work.

She gave up no runs on two hits and struck out seven.

Elkins hosts Lincoln tonight at 5 p.m. for a Big 10 Conference matchup.

East Hardy sweeps

Tygarts Valley

BAKER – The East Hardy High School softball team swept a pair of games from Tygarts Valley Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

The Lady Cougars (11-2) won the first game 11-1 and swept the nightcap 10-0.

Autumn Mathias notched the win for East Hardy in three innings of work.

She gave up no runs on three hits and struck out six.

Mathias and Rayann Roltz had one hit and two RBIs each for the Lady Cougars.

Shaunna Taylor took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs in three innings of work.

Charity Lower, Alexis Vandevender and Morgan Stout all had hits for Tygarts Valley.

Morgan Basye picked up the win for East Hardy in game two.

She gave up no runs on two hits, walked one and struck out two.

Marilyn Cassell had two hits and three RBIs, while Basye had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Cougars.

Charity Lower took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs in game two.

Taylor and Lower had the hits for TVHS.

East Hardy hosts Petersburg tonight at 7 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.

Tygarts Valley visits Pendleton?County Thursday at 7 p.m. for a Potomac Valley Conference tilt.

Moorefield 9, Southern 1

MOOREFIELD – Beth?Cook had three hits, including a home run, to lead Moorefield past Southern 9-1 Tuesday in non-conference action.

Katelyn Wills chipped in with three hits and two runs scored for the Lady Yellow?Jackets.

Shayna Vetter notched the win in five innings of work.?She gave up one run on two hits, walked one and struck out five.

Moorefield travels to Tucker County tonight for Potomac Valley Conference action and a double-header starting at 4 p.m.
