Pitching gem sparks Elkins girls

WESTON – Michaela Lewis-Lambert fanned 16 batter and allowed one hit as Elkins claimed a 3-0 win over Lewis County Friday in Big 10 Conference play.

Lewis went all seven innings and didn’t issue any walks.

“Michaela gave us a tremendous effort,” Elkins coach Corrine Palmer. “We also had some timely hits to earn a very good win.”

The Lady Tigers (2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI?double by Hailey Collins. Elkins added an unearned run in the fifth, and an RBI?single from Amelia Preusch in the sixth.

Collins went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Tigers, while Madison Collett, Lewis-Lambert and Lindsay Silvester added singles.

Tori Shea Riley took the loss for the Minutemaids. She allowed six hits, struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter.

Elkins will return to action at East Hardy at noon today for a doubleheader, while Lewis County will visit Hampshire at 1 p.m.
