Price’s single propels Colts to DH sweep

PHILIPPI – Chance Price’s two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Philip Barbour to a 9-8 win over Preston in the second game of a Big 10 Conference doubleheader on Thursday night.

The Colts won the opening game, 13-6, as Jacob Marsh and Doug Smith each drove in two runs. Marsh also homered in the contest, while Zach Howdershelt and Tyler Schiefelbein each went 3-for-4.

Jimmy Galsusky had two homers and Chase Chambers added another for the Knights.

Saige Cline went 4 2/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up five runs on 10 hits, struck out two and walked two.

Price finished with a pair of hits and three RBIs in the nightcap to lead Philip Barbour. Smith added a pair of hits and two RBIs and Bryant Martin went 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Howdershelt earned the win in relief of Martin, allowing just one hit and one run in 4 1/3 innings. He fanned two and walked two.

The Colts will entertain Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference doubleheader.

College baseball

A-B 12, Salem 2

CLARKSBURG – David Bryan went 4-for-5 at the plate, and freshman Zach Glaze tossed a complete-game five-hitter as Alderson-Broaddus claimed a 12-2 win over Salem International Thursday at Frank Loria Memorial Field.

Brandon Quay added a homer and finished with three extra-base hits for the Battlers. He also stole home in the second inning. Daniel Essian and Bobby McLaughlin added two hits each.

Glaze struck out eight and walked four to earn the win.

Aaron Alderman had a two-run homer for the Tigers.

A-B (22-21) will travel Division I opponent Youngstown State at 3 p.m. today in the regular-season finale.

College lacrosse

Lindenwood 23, A-B 3

PHILIPPI – Brandon Stuebing had five goals to pace Lindenwood past Alderson-Broaddus 23-3 Thursday in ECAC action.

Thomas Moffat tallied two goals for the Battlers and Kirk Eade added the other.

Jordan Hayes had 10 stops in goal for A-B, which dropped to 0-12, 0-6 ECAC.

The Lions improved to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the ECAC.

The Battlers will conclude the regular season Saturday at Walsh.
