Senators sweep Battlers

Brad Banzhoff had an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning as Davis &?Elkins completed a sweep of Alderson-Broaddus with a 4-3 win Thursday at Harpertown Fields.

After winning the opening game 3-0, the Senators rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth in the nightcap.

Matt Moceri also had a homer in the second game. Tripp Staley earned the win in relief of Marcus Warner, who went 7 1/3 innings, allowing just four hits.

D&E used a strong outing for Michael Paratore in the lidlifer. The junior lefty pitched six scoreless innings. Staley worked the seventh to earn the save.

The Senators plated single runs in each of the first, fifth and sixth innings.

Matt Barr and Anthony Ragos each had two hits an RBI, while Lance VanNoy collected two hits.

Banzhoff had three RBIs in the second game.

D&E (14-13, 10-8 WVC) will travel to Ohio Valley at 4:30 p.m. today for a league contest.

A-B (13-12, 8-9) will venture to Shepherd at 1 p.m. Saturday for WVC doubleheader.

Wesleyan earns split

BUCKHANNON – Wesleyan claimed a 5-4 win over West Liberty in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday to salvage a split in West Virginia Conference play.

Elkins High School product Spencer Webley cracked a two-run double to give the Bobcats the lead for good at 3-1 in the nightcap.

Wesleyan tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth before the Hilltoppers rallied for three runs in the sixth.

Zach Oliver worked 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up four runs, struck out four and walked two. Casey Defibaugh earned the save.

West Liberty claimed an 8-5 win in the lidlifter.

Webley and Tom Brunswick each drove in two runs in a losing effort for the Bobcats. Aaron Adams took the loss, allowing six runs in 5 1/3 innings. He fanned six and walked two.

Wesleyan (12-12, 8-2 WVC) will travel to West Virginia State at 1 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader.
