Elkins locked up the top seed in the Class AAA, Region II, Section 3 tournament by sweeping Hampshire Friday in a doubleheader at Elkins Middle School.

The teams will meet again at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Romney in the first game of the best-of-three sectional series before returning to Elkins on Wednesday to play a pair of games if necessary, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Despite only getting two hits, the Tigers earned a 3-1 in Friday’s opening game.

Elkins broke a 1-1 deadlock by scoring a pair of runs in the fourth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Hailey Collins and another run crossed on an error.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI sacrifice fly from Courtney Moreland.

The Tigers tied the game in the third on Sara Burky’s run-producing fielder’s choice.
