EHS hires new coach

Cathy Duffield was named the new girls basketball coach at Elkins High School at the Randolph County Board of Education meeting Monday.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity,” Duffield said. “It will be an experience but I like the challenge.”

Duffield takes over for former coach Nancy Lewis who stepped down at the end of last season.

She was a volunteer coach at Elkins High back in 2000 and then was the girls coach at Elkins Middle School for nine years.

“I’m used to these girls, since I coached most of them,” Duffield said. “It’s a good group of parents and I think there will be a new look for next year.”

Duffield plans to work with the boys coach John Lawson at Elkins High to put on a clinic during the three-week period in June and also take the players to a team camp.

“I want the kids to be ready before the season starts,” Duffield said. “I’m going to hopefully get more kids out this year and get them interested.”
