Pendleton wins sectional banner

FRANKLIN – The Pendleton County baseball team swept Pocahontas County in a doubleheader late Thursday to capture their 11th consecutive sectional title.

The Wildcats (18-10) won the first game 10-0 and took the second game, 15-3.

Daniel Hevener notched the win in Game 1 in three innings of work. He gave up no runs on one hit and struck out four.

Kyle Kartzschmar had three hits and three RBIs, while Luke Yokum and Logan Cooper had two hits, two RBIs each for Pendleton.

Judd Walther took the loss in one inning of work for the Warriors.

Cody Sharp and Brandon Hammons had the lone hits for Pocahontas County.

Logan Cooper picked up the win in Game 2 in three innings on the mound. He gave up two runs on three hits and struck out two.

Kartzschmar had two hits, including a grand slam, and finished with five RBIs, while Yokum had three hits and three RBIs for Pendleton County.

Jesse Lambert had three singles, while Daniel Hevener had a two-run home run for the Wildcats.

Hammons took the loss for Pocahontas County five innings of work.

Lucas Fuller had two hits for the Warriors.

Pendleton County will play either Moorefield or East Hardy May 21 in regional semifinal action. The Cougars and Yellow Jackets will meet today.
