Tigers slip past Colts in seventh
Kollin Hopwood’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Elkins to a 6-5 win over Philip Barbour Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Hopwood’s hit scored Jake Wyatt from second base.
Logan Phillips had two hits, including a home run and two RBIs for Elkins, while Wyatt, Colby Gainer and Tyler Scott had two hits each.
Scott notched the win for Elkins in seven innings of work. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out seven.
“I thought Tyler pitched well,” Elkins coach Adam Roth said. “We got the hits we needed, especially late in the game.”
Zach Howdershelt took the loss for the Colts (8-14) in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Doug Smith and Howdershelt had two hits each and scored runs, while Saige Cline had a double and scored a run for Philip Barbour.
Philip Barbour will host Tucker County at 4:30 p.m. today for a non-conference tilt.
Elkins will entertain Lewis County at 7 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference matchup at Elkins High School.
