WVU backup QB Rawlins to transfer

MORGANTOWN – West Virginia backup quarterback Chavas Rawlins has decided to transfer.

Rawlins, who enrolled at WVU in January, was in competition with holdovers Paul Millard and Ford Childress, along with Florida State transfer Clint Trickett for the starting quarterback job to replace Geno Smith.

Andy Pacak, who coached Rawlins at Monessen (Pa.), said a big reason the freshman will transfer is because Jake Spavital, who recruited him, is no longer with the Mountaineers after leaving to become quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M.

Rawlins didn’t take any snaps in last month’s Gold-Blue spring game.
