Elkins Post 29 tops Buckhannon, 8-1

Elkins Post 29 defeated Buckhannon 8-1 Wednesday at Tennerton in American Legion action, with Colby and Cody Gainer sharing the spotlight on the pitching mound.

Colby Gainer got the win, scattering 4 hits over 7 innings and racking up 10 strikeouts. He improved his record to 4-1 on the season.

Cody Gainer shone in relief, and helped his cause at the plate, going 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs.

“We were finally focused through the entire game,” Post 29 Manager Chris George said. “It showed the whole night. Our pitching was wonderful.”

Corey Reed took the loss in relief for Buckhannon.

Chance Price went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Elkins, while Jake Wyatt, Tyler Shreve and Brennan Dettinger had 2 hits each for Post 29.

Elkins improved to 11-10 with the win, and will host Moundsville at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Post 29 also will host Berkeley County,at 6 p.m. Saturday, while Moundsville will play Berkeley County at 3:30 p.m. Both games also will be played at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
