Scott’s relief work leads Post 29 to win

BRIDGEPORT?- Tyler Scott’s effort in relief helped Elkins Post 29 claim an 11-5 win over Bridgeport MVB Tuesday night in American Legion action.

Scott pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with no walks or strikeouts.

“Tyler enabled us to come back and win this game,” Elkins general manager Chris George said. “He came in and threw only 45 pitches in five innings and really shut them down.

“We also got some big hits down the stretch after falling behind early.”

Post 29 trailed 5-1 in the contest before erupting for 10 runs over the final four innings, including a five-run outburst in the ninth.

Colby Gainer led Elkins at the plate by going 4-for-6 with four RBIs.

Silas Gibson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Tyler Shreve added a pair of hits and knocked in three runs.

Josh Boggio took the loss for Bridgeport.

Ben Lonergan started on the mound for Post 29, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out a pair of batters.

Elkins (7-4) will return to action at 7 p.m. today at Fairmont. Post 29 will then face Beckley for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday at Independence High School and remain on the road Saturday for a pair of games against South Charleston at Winfield High School on Saturday and a single game against Clarksburg Post 13 on Sunday.

Elkins’ next home game will be June 29 for a 1 p.m. contest at Robin Harvey Memorial Field against Moundsville, followed by another game at 6 p.m. vs. Berkeley County.
