Post 29 salvages split with Post 94

Elkins Post 29 salvaged a split against South Charleston with a 5-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Brennan Dettinger (3-0) earned the win for Post 29, allowing no runs on three hits in four innings. He struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk.

Dettinger and Cody Gainer each went 2 for 4 at the plate, while Al Johnson was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Gainer also had an RBI.

Dusty Kincaid was saddled with the loss for Post 94, allowing five runs and striking out four.

South Charleston took the opening game 6-1 as Riley Metz allowed just two hits and fanned six.

Brandon Hamons took the loss, allowing four runs and striking out three in five innings.

Elkins dropped a pair of games to Romney on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 9-0.

Colten Dorsey earned the win for Romney in the lidlifter, allowing just two hits and striking out two.

Issac Riggleman took the loss for Elkins, giving up just four hits and fanning two in seven innings.

Matt Maiers got the win for Romney in the second game, allowing six hits and Jeriah Joseph took the loss.

“We played very well in the second game on Sunday after losing three straight,” Elkins general manager Chris George said. “We started hitting the ball, which we need to do once postseason play begins.

“Our pitching continues to be solid. We just need to get the bats going and start scoring some more runs.”

Elkins (18-19) will host Clarksburg at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a doubleheader at Robin Harvey. Post 29 also will scrimmage the Elkins Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
