Tygarts Valley set for states

Tygarts Valley will be making its first appearance in the Little League 12-year-old state tournament Sunday at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.

Competing in Pool A, Tygarts Valley will face South Charleston at 3 p.m. Sunday, St. Albans at 6 p.m. Monday and Bi-State at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The top two teams in each of the four pools will advance to a single-elimination tournament that gets underway on Wednesday.

Tygarts Valley earned a spot in the state tournament by defeating Braxton County, 11-4, to finish as the District 8 runner-up.

Members of the Tygarts Valley All-Stars include Warner Gibson, Joel McCauley, Daniel White, Tyler Lanham, Corey Louk, Devan Ball, Brett Smith, Hunter Davis, Austin Lanham, Jake Tackett, Logan George and Ethan Lanham.

Greg Smith is the team’s manager and he will be assisted by Jeff George and Leon Lower.

Other teams competing in the tournament include Elkins, Bridgeport and Pineville in Pool B, Barboursville, Beckley, Martinsburg and Shady Spring in Pool C and Fairmont, Madison and Huntington in Pool D.

The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday. The winner of the tournament advances to regional competition in Warner Robins, Ga.
