B-U, Elkins both fall in Big 10 golf action

BUCKHANNON – Brennon Vincent fired a 5-over par round of 41 Tuesday to lead East Fairmont High School to victory in a three-team Big 10 Conference golf match at the Buckhannon Country Club.

East Fairmont carded a team total of 174, followed by Liberty at 213 and Buckhannon-Upshur at 256.

B-U was led by Tanner Wuchner, who shot a 44. Blake Williams and Brooklyn Bailey each fired a 59, and Riley Lamb shot 94.

East Fairmont also was helped by Bailey Fredrick, who completed her round in 42 strokes. Jacob Monnell shot 44, followed by Tanner Barnes, 47; Hayden Stewart, 49; and Mason Weese, 49.

Liberty was led by Ty Wickline’s 50, followed by Chase Morris, 52; Jordan Rollyson, 54; and Bo Drummond, 57.

B-U will host Elkins, Fairmont Senior and Robert C. Byrd high schools Thursday at the Buckhannon-Country Club.

Elkins places second

GRAFTON – Braden Hammond and Kollin Hopwood both shot 40s to lead Elkins to a second-place showing in a three-team Big 10 Conference matchup Tuesday at Tygart Lake Golf Course.

Grafton finished with a 171 to take the match, followed by the Tigers (175) and Robert C. Byrd (175).

“This was the first time our kids have played at this course,” Elkins coach Dave Baird said. “We didn’t perform very well and I give Grafton credit for hitting some key shots.”

Kole Hopwood added a 45 for the Tigers, while Joseph Severino followed with a 50, Jared Kerns a 54 and Brendon Cain a 56.

Grafton’s Zach Musgrove, a sophomore, was low medalist with a 38. Teammate Travis Mayle chipped in with a 43.

Louis Carvelli led the Eagles with a 39. Ezra Calef added a 43.

Elkins will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur on Thursday.

Tygarts Valley wins four-team match

SNOWSHOE – Tygarts Valley captured a four-team match Monday the Raven Golf Club.

The Bulldogs finished with a team total 197, followed by Webster County (200), Pocahontas County (203) and East Hardy (238).

Alex Hinzman and Cody Grimmett each finished with 46s to lead Tygarts Valley.

Pocahontas County’s Brandon Wilfong fired a 45 to earn low medalist. Tony Mazella led Webster County with a 46, while Ian Im and Dillon Walker had 56s for East Hardy.

Tygarts Valley will host Tucker County, Notre Dame, Webster County and Petersburg at 4 p.m. today at the Elks Country Club Course.
