Ford Soccer Challenge to be held

Elkins Fordland and Seneca Soccer are excited to announce they are once again bringing the Ford Soccer Skills Challenge community program to local kids and families. The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the front lawn at Davis & Elkins College.

The Ford Soccer Skills Challenge is a program that pairs Ford Dealerships with local youth soccer clubs, YMCAs and schools to host soccer events.

The program brings boys and girls, ages 8-13, together to compete in a series of soccer challenges designed to encourage teamwork and improve skills, all while having fun. This year participants have the opportunity to compete in an individual skills challenge, as well as a newly incorporated team skills challenge.

“With the amazing success of last year’s Soccer Skills Challenge, we’re thrilled to provide this opportunity to young soccer players and their families in our community,” said Jim Jackson, Elkins Fordland owner.

Individual and team participants will receive points based on performance of specific soccer skills. The individual skills challenge will test players on toe taps, foundations, juggling (right and left foot), dribbling and ball striking. The top scoring boy and girl from each age group will be awarded an achievement ribbon and invited to the regional finals event to compete again for additional prizes.

The first 50 participants to check-in on-site will receive a 2013 Ford Soccer Skills Challenge program t-shirt and souvenir bag tag for their efforts. All participants will receive a two-month iSoccer Plus membership. Additionally, Elkins Fordland will donate $500 to Seneca Soccer to help the program continue to provide a healthy setting for kids to learn teamwork and the value of exercise.

Seneca Soccer is an all-volunteer soccer club that provides affordable soccer fun and skill development in Randolph County. Children have an encouraging environment to learn and grow in their abilities, regardless of skill level. Both the spring and the fall leagues are extremely successful.

Parents/legal guardians of participants will be automatically entered for a chance to win $30,000 toward a Ford vehicle of their choice (no purchase necessary – complete rules can be found at: www.fordsoccerskillschallenge.com/elkinsfordland. A winner will be randomly selected in January of 2014.

Those interested can register by visiting www.senecasoccer.net or www.elkinsfordland.com and clicking on the Soccer Skills banner.
