Haddix helped lead EHS to playoffs

Editor’s note: The following is the second in a series of profiles of individuals and teams that will be inducted into the Randolph County Athletic Hall of Fame Aug. 10 at Gandy Dancer Theatre.

Phil Haddix, a 2004 graduate of Elkins High School, was the lead player on the 2003 Tiger football team that advanced to the Class AAA state playoffs.

He was selected three times to the All-North Central Athletic Conference first team, one of only two players to achieve that distinction while EHS was a member of the NCAC.

As a junior, Haddix led the team in rushing and receiving. In his senior season, he led in rushing, receptions and scoring with 1,018 rushing yards, 1,559 all-purpose yards, 92 points and 12 touchdowns, the seventh most in a single season at EHS. He rushed for 100 yards in six games in 2003, finishing his career with 3,489 all-purpose yards. His 18 career touchdowns ranked eighth in school history.

His accomplishments on the gridiron earned second team All-State honors as the Tigers became just the third team in EHS history to advance to the state football playoffs.
