Hamrick leads Tiger harriers

ST. MARYS – Elkins’ Austin Hamrick turned in a fifth-place finish at the Autumn Classic on Saturday.

Hamrick finished with a time of 18:31. Teammate Dalton Hamrick was 26th (20:29), followed by Will Gongola 74th (22:36) and Jacob Earle 119th (24:46).

“Austin ran a good race on one of the muddiest courses I have seen in my 19 years of coaching cross country,” Elkins coach Shellie Burda said. “We did not field full teams because of some injuries that we didn’t want to further aggravate, but we hope to be able to correct that next weekend.

“Our goal is to get better every time we go out. I think our freshmen will continue to get better with each experience.”

Bridgeport won the team title with a score of 40, followed by Wheeling Park (62), Williamstown (85), John Marshall (162) and Oak Glen (167).

Hannah Gongola led the EHS girls with a 13th-place showing, clearing the course in a time of 24:45. Monica Rossi was 29th (26:19), Kathlyne Simmons 36th (27:07) and Katy Ross 103rd (32:26).

Williamstown (59) took the team title, while Ravenswood (79), Doddridge County (107), Oak Glen (122) and Linsly (145) rounded out the top five.

PB’s Long places ninth at Preston

KINGWOOD – Marissa Long finished 19th to lead Philip Barbour to an 11th-place showing at the Knight Night Relays Saturday night at Preston High School.

Long had a time of 9:44.20 as the Colts finished with a team time of 41:42.3. Other runners included Allison Villers 38th (10:13.90), Katie Mahoney 41st (10:18.50) and Haley Truman 100th (11:25.70).

The Philip Barbour “B”?team was 25th and was led by Marley Dib with a 42nd-place finish in a time of 10:21.10.

University won the team title, while Buckhannon-Upshur was 17th and the B-U “B”?team 27th.

Sarah Pappas led the Bucs with a 61st-place finish, while Megan Russell placed 58th for the “B”?team.

University also won the boys’ race, while Philip Barbour was eighth.

B-U placed 28th and Tucker County was 29th.

Scott Nesland cleared the course in a time of 7:49 to finish eighth for the Colts. Other PB runners were Tyler Baldwin 44th, Dustin Williams 49th and Jesse Austin 80th.

Trevor Matko placed 37th for the Philip Barbour “B”?team.

Chad Christenson finished 64th for the Bucs, while Walker Blosser was 90th for the Mountain Lions.
