Lewis, EHS garner wins in openers
CLARKSBURG – Aaron Hall fired a 7-over 42 to lead the Lewis County High School golf team to victory Wednesday in a three-team match at the Clarksburg Country Club.
Lewis County had a team total of 138, followed by Liberty with a 157 in a match that was delayed by a passing thunderstorm.
Buckhannon-Upshur was unable to post a team score because it only had two golfers competing in the match.
Mark Moran fired a 47 for Lewis County, followed by Connor Thomas with a 49 and Luke Pudder with a 51.
Tanner Wuchner led B-U with a 46, and Blake Williams carded a 60.
Liberty was led by Ty Wickline’s round of 50, followed by Bo Drummond, 52; Jordan Rollyson, 54; and Chase Morris, 55.
Lewis County returns to its home golf course, the Deerfield Country Club, to host Philip Barbour in a 10 a.m. match today.
B-U travels to the Barbour Country Club on Aug. 13 for its next match.
Elkins wins tri-match
CLARKSBURG – Elkins opened the season by defeating Bridgeport and Lincoln Wednesday afternoon at Bel Meadow Country Club.
The Tigers shot a team total 174, while Bridgeport carded a 182 and Lincoln a 208.
The Tigers’ Braden Hammond earned low-medalist honors with a 39.
Teammates Kollin Hopwood added a 42 and Kole Hopwood a 45.
“This was a good opener for us,” Elkins coach Dave Baird said. “This was the first time we’ve played at Bel Meadow and we performed well.”
James Goots and Chase Robey each shot 45’s for Bridgeport, while Andrew Lopez led Lincoln with a 49.
Elkins will travel to Preston at 11 a.m. today.
