Oak Hill rolls past Tigers

Jalen Jones found several different ways to reach the scoring column in leading Oak Hill to a 48-14 win over Elkins in the season opener at Wimer Field on Friday night.

The senior all-state running back accounted for four touchdowns – three rushing and one on a punt return. He also tacked on six extra-point kicks and rushed for 180 yards on the evening.

The Tigers struck first, however, as Morgan Kelly took the opening play from scrimmage 91 yards to make it 6-0 after the failed two-point conversion.

But Jones answered with a 51-yard touchdown run on the Red Devils’ first possession of the evening to make it 7-6 just 2:00 into the contest.

After the Tigers were forced to punt on the enusing possession, Jones scooped up the short kick and busted loose for a 50-yard score.

He added a 1-yard run later in the quarter to extend the lead to 21-6.

Oak Hill tacked on an 11-yard run by Jarrell Green in the second quarter before Jones found paydirt for the fourth time of the half, this time from 51 yards out with 7:36 left in the second quarter to make it 34-6 at intermission.

Kadrin Goodman added touchdown runs of 4 and 13 yards in the third quarter to end the scoring for the visitors.

The Tigers tacked on a 33-yard score by John Huffman late in the final quarter.

Kelly finished with 132 yards on 15 carries to lead the Tigers, while Ben Lonergan added 43 yards on the ground.

Elkins will remain home next Friday to battle Hampshire.
