Pingley was a standout at Beverly High School

Editor’s note: The following is the fourth in a series of profiles of individuals and teams that will be inducted into the Randolph County Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday at Gandy Dancer Theatre.

Norman J. Pingley was team co-captain of the 1960-61 Beverly High School basketball team.

With a 19-3 record, the team captured the district championship and finished runner-up in the area tournament. The second leading scorer on the team, he was named to the All-Tournament defensive team.

Pingley continued his athletic career at Potomac State College where he lettered in both basketball and baseball.

After graduating from Concord College, he served as athletic director and basketball and baseball coach at Cairo High School.

While earning his master’s degree in physical education at WVU, Pingley supervised the intramural program as a graduate assistant.

Pingley went on to chair the physical education department at Hernando High School in Florida before becoming director of athletics and women’s softball coach at Pasco-Hernando Community College. He was selected to coach the South All-Stars at the Florida Junior College state softball tournament.
