WVU recruit Macon is eligible

MORGANTOWN – West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins says Huntington standout Elijah Macon has been cleared academically to enroll in school.

The Charleston Gazette reports Friday was the last day for the 6-foot-9 Macon to enroll in fall classes.

Macon originally signed with the Mountaineers in 2012 when he was a senior at Huntington Prep. But he didn’t qualify academically and spent last season in prep school in New Hampshire.

Macon should be in the mix for playing time this season as WVU lost both Deniz Kilicli and Aaric Murray from last year’s squad.

The status of another recruit – Jonathan Holton – remained unknown as of Friday.

The junior college transfer averaged 17.5 points and 14.1 rebounds last year at Palm Beach (Fla.) State Community College.
