Bobcats look to knock off No. 14 Rams today

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan will entertain No. 14 Shepherd for a Mountain East Conference contest at 1 p.m. today at Cebe Ross Field.

The Bobcats (1-2, 1-1 MEC) will be trying to rebound from a 34-25 loss at Notre Dame (Ohio) last week.

Jeremy Musselman is averaging 282 passing yards per game and has thrown four touchdown passes. Junior Lavaughn Hughes is the top receiver with 17 catches for 281 yards and two scores on the season, while Ricky Conner has snagged 16 receptions for 237 yards.

Wesleyan will try to get its rushing attack on track. The Bobcats are only averaging 74 yards rushing per game.

The Rams (3-0, 2-0), meanwhile, do have a strong running game that ranks second in the conference with 200 yards per outing.

Allen Cross and Jabre Lolley lead the attack, averaging 91 and 79.3 yards per game, respectively.

Quarterback Trae Tinsman has thrown for 428 yards and five scores.

Shepherd is second in the MEC in overall defense but has surrendered 837 passing yards.

Virginia Lynchburg

at Alderson Broaddus

Alderson Broaddus will seek to halt a two-game losing skid at noon today against Virginia University of Lynchburg.

The Battlers have dropped games to Chowan and St. Joseph’s College after opening the season with a 31-28 victory over Pace.

AB surrendered over 600 total yards of offense in last week’s setback.

Brandon Jones sparked the offense with his third straight 100-yard rushing game.

Jeff Stephens led the defense with 10.5 tackles. He has five sacks on the season.

The Dragons (0-3) are coming off a 33-30 loss to Southern Virginia, despite quarterback Emmanuel Yeager completing 22 of 34 passes for 325 yards and four scores.

Devon Stewart was on the receiving end of eight of those passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
