Bulldogs capture PVC match at the Raven

SNOWSHOE – Alex Hinzman shot a 43 to lead Tygarts Valley to a first-place finish in a three-team match held at the Raven on Monday evening.

The Bulldogs (202) defeated Pocahontas County (206) and Moorefield (215).

Casey Martel (48), Jared Wegman (54) and Cody Grimmett (57) paced Tygarts Valley. Pocahontas County was led by Stephen Mick and B.J. Wilfong with 48s. Moorefield’s Tanner Carr shot a 51.

“It was nice to get a win against two quality regional opponents,” Bulldog coach Mitch Channell said.

“We’re going to see them both again next week at regionals, and it helps the confidence of the guys to know we have the ability to beat both of them.”

Tygarts Valley will finish the regular season at 4 p.m. today with a home match at the Elks Course.

Tucker places second

MOOREFIELD – Tucker County placed second in a Potomac Valley Conference match Tuesday at Valley View.

Petersburg shot a team score 173 to win the match, followed by the Mountain Lions (190), Moorefield (199) and East Hardy (212).

Ian Nichols shot a 42 to lead Tucker County, while Seth Evans added a 46, Brandon Carr a 50, Eric McCrum a 52 and Zach Parsons a 53.

The Vikings’ Brian George shot a 36 to earn low-medalist honors.

Tanner Carr (45) led Moorefield, Ian Im had a 49 for the Cougars and Nathan Evans a 63 for Union.

Tucker County will host Petersburg, Northern Garrett (Md.), Southern Garrett (Md.) and Allegheny (Md.) Thursday at Canaan Valley.

College soccer

AB women cruise

PHILIPPI – The Alderson Broaddus women’s soccer team recorded 42 shots and shut out WVU Tech, 5-0, Tuesday at AB?Stadium.

Valerie Barlow, Olivia Augustine, Brooke Hunsaker, Kristi DeCristopher and Brittany Minor tallied goals for the Battlers, who improved to 2-4-1.

AB will host rival Davis &?Elkins at 7 p.m. Saturday for a G-MAC contest.

Battler men fall

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Alderson Broaddus men’s soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback Tuesday against Seton Hill University.

The Griffins (6-1) posted two first-half goals and added a third in the second half. Dilveer Chaggar, Matt Luchetti and David Foster delivered goals for the winners.

Pat Kelly and Ryan Hughes led AB with two shots apiece. The Battlers tallied five shots in the first half and five more after the break.

The Battlers (1-6) will open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at 2 p.m. on Sunday against Davis & Elkins at AB Stadium.
