Forest Festival collegiate race set for today

The 27th Annual Davis & Elkins College Mountain State Forest Festival Cross Country Invitational will be held today on the Davis & Elkins campus.

The women’s race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men at 11 a.m.

The six-team field includes host school D&E, Alderson Broaddus University, Fairmont State University, Messiah College, Gannon University and Ursuline College.

Women’s college soccer

Davis &?Elkins dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Lake Erie Friday afternoon in women’s soccer action.

The Storm (1-0) struck first when freshman Elizabeth Awuha scored off a pass from Kynslie Murphy at the 17:00 mark. Late in the first half, Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead when senior Chrissy Poulos tallied a goal Awuha providing the assist.

The Senators (0-1) got on the scoreboard at the 66:00 mark when Elkins High School product Maggie Fry converted on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 2-1.

D&E will be back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday at Roberts Wesleyan.

Men’s college soccer

TIFFIN, Ohio – Smart Osadolor goal just 2:00 into the contest was enough to lift Tiffin to a 1-0 over Davis &?Elkins on?Friday.

The Dragons limited the Senators to only five shots, none of which were on goal.

Cameron Rivera tallied a pair of saves in goal for D&E, which will open the home season at 1 p.m. Sunday against East Stroudsburg (Pa.).

College volleyball

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Davis &?Elkins volleyball team fell to West Chester, 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15) and Southern New Hampshire, 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-21) on Friday.

Freshman Alexis Mourier led the way for the Senators with nine kills against WCU. Kelsey Richards notched 15 digs while Haylee Murray added 13 digs and 12 assists.

Nicole Miller posted a team-high six kills against SNHU. Richards notched 17 digs and Natalie Mathieu registered 15 digs.

D&E will conclude play in Kutztown with two games today.
