Hopwood leads Tiger golfers to win

FAIRMONT – Kollin Hopwood outdistanced the rest of the field by four strokes, firing a two-over par 37 at the Fairmont Field Club on Tuesday, as Elkins easily outdistanced Fairmont Senior and Liberty to claim a victory in the three-team match.

Elkins carded a team total of 169, besting host Fairmont Senior by 10 strokes. Liberty came in with a 247 total.

“That was a decent score for us,” Elkins High School golf coach David Baird said. “I was happy to see Kollin playing up to his capabilities.”

Braden Hammond and Kole Hopwood each finished with a 41 for Elkins, followed by Brendan Cain, 50; Russell Ward, 55; and Jared Kerns, 61.

“Kole came in with one of his lowest rounds of the year,” Baird said. “Hopefully, we can get all of our guys playing well on the same day.”

Fairmont Senior was led by Bailey Mohr and Anthony Alvaro, who each shot 41. Gage Hannah fired a 45, followed by Cody Brubaker, 52; Zach Phillips, 53; and Logan Orton, 53. Chase Morris and Bo Drummond both carded a 54 for Liberty.

Elkins will travel back to Marion County on Thursday, this time to the Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont to battle North Marion and Fairmont Senior.
