Nesmith’s TD run helps Battlers rally past VLU
PHILIPPI – Quarterback Wesley Nesmith’s 9-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds left in regulation lifted Alderson Broaddus to a 17-14 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg Saturday at AB Stadium.
Nesmith’s run capped a 12-play drive for the Battlers, who trailed 14-0 before scoring 17 unanswered points.
Quarterback Emmanuel Yeager had a 20-yard touchdown run and Keith Lewis returned an interception 26 yards to give the Dragons a 14-0 lead.
The Battlers’ Phillip Warner booted a 45-yard field goal late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 14-3.
After VUL fumbled a punt, Nesmith connected with receiver Preston Bailey for a score to make it 14-10.
Tailback Brandon Jones was AB’s top rusher with 63 yards and recorded 90 yards of total offense.
The Battlers will travel to Kentucky State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Shepherd 45, Wesleyan 10
BUCKHANNON – Sophomore running back Allen Cross rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns, while junior quarterback Trae Tinsman connected on 11 of 15 passes for 220 yards and a pair of scores to lead Shepherd to a 45-10 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference football action Saturday at Cebe Ross Field.
The Rams (4-0, 3-0 MEC) amassed 449 yards of total offense, while the Bobcats were limited to 160.
Freshman Tyler Bolen had a 5-yard touchdown pass to Lavaughn Hughes and Kasper Bernild a 33-yard field goal to account for Wesleyan’s points.
The Bobcats (1-3, 1-2) will visit Glenville State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for a MEC contest.

PHILIPPI – Three different players recorded goals to lead Davis &?Elkins to a 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus Saturday night in G-MAC play at AB Stadium.
Ashley Muscat, Emma Davis and Laia Margenat Dordas each tallied scores for the Senators.
Brooke Hunsaker and Olivia Augustine had two shots each for the Battlers (2-5-1, 1-1 G-MAC), who will host Trevecca Nazarene at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
D&E (2-6, 2-0) will entertain Kentucky Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m. on the same day.
