Tygarts Valley golfers capture tri-match

CANAAN?VALLEY?- Tygarts Valley defeated Tucker County and East Hardy in a three-team Potomac Valley Conference match Thursday at Canaan Valley.

The Bulldogs finished with a 193, followed by Tucker County (194) and East Hardy (235).

Ian Nichols was low medalist, shooting a 39 for the Mountain Lions. Tygarts Valley’s Alex Hinzman and Cody Grimmett paced the Bulldogs with 45s. Dillon Walker led East Hardy with a 53.

Tucker County celebrated Senior Night, with four seniors, Nichols, Brandon Carr, Tyler Fike and Zach Parsons, playing their final home match for the Mountain Lions.

Tygarts Valley, Tucker County and East Hardy will all travel to Moorefield on Monday to participate in the Potomac Valley Conference golf tournament.

Pendleton downs TV

FRANKLIN – Pendleton County Middle School defeated Tygarts Valley 34-2 on Thursday night.

Kole Puffenberger threw three touchdown passes – 35 yards to Brycon Gribble and 20 and 21 yards to Ridge Liggett to lead the Wildcats. Puffenberger also rushed for a 5-yard score and Joshua Wagner added a 6-yard touchdown.

Pendleton County (1-1) will host Tucker Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday, while the Bulldogs (0-1) will entertain Belington at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Tigers fall to Minutemaids

WESTON – Lewis County defeated Elkins in three straight games Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play.

The Minutemaids won by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17.

Taylor Miller had six kills and Amber Marstiller six ace serves for the Tigers, who will open the home season at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Fairmont Senior.

Lewis County also took the junior varsity contest, 25-15, 25-22.
