Bucs fall to Trojans; Cougars blank Tucker County

TENNERTON – Hampshire blocked a late extra-point attempt to hold off Buckhannon-Upshur, 13-12, Friday night to spoil Homecoming at Freal “Red” Crites Alumni Stadium.

The Bucs trailed 13-6 before Dillon Gaudet hit Jordan Dean for a 30-yard score late in the fourth quarter. The Trojans then blocked the PAT kick and were able to run out all but seven seconds of the game clock before being forced to punt.

The Bucs were unable to threaten after taking possession.

Quarterback Shane Ennis gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter.

The Bucs answered when Marcus Lofton busted loose for a 76-yard run off a reverse play. The two-point conversion failed, however, to keep the score 7-6 at intermission.

A short run by Dalton Clower stretched the margin to 14-6.

Lofton, who also had two interceptions on defense, rushed for 91 yards on four carries to pace B-U. Seth Cutright, who left the game with an injury, added 73 yards. Gaudet completed 5 of 13 passes for 67 yards.

Clower had 98 yards on the ground to lead Hampshire, which improved to 4-2.

B-U (2-5) will travel to Philip Barbour next Friday.

East Hardy 8, Tucker County 0

BAKER – Class A, No. 6 East Hardy claimed an 8-0 win over No. 14 Tucker County Friday night in PVC action.

The Cougars (6-0) scored all of the game’s points in the first half – on a touchdown and a safety.

The Mountain Lions (4-3) will be idle next week, while East Hardy will host county rival Moorefield.
