D&E soccer teams sweep Kentucky Wesleyan College

The Davis &?Elkins College soccer teams swept Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday afternoon at the Harpertown fields.

With the wins, both teams stayed unbeaten in G-MAC play.

In the men’s game, national scoring leader and two-time G-MAC Player of the Week, James Pucci, continued his assault, scoring three goals and assisting on three others in a 7-1 victory.

The Senators (5-3-1, 3-0-1 G-MAC) opened the scoring at the 13:50 mark when Pucci executed a corner kick high in front of the net and Lucas Grosse-Puppendahl put in the header.

Only 18 seconds later, Pucci shot from 15 yards out from the right side and squeezed it past Panther goalkeeper Travis Rowland.

KWC rarely controlled a ball on the Senators’ side of the field but in the 22nd minute, Blake Cobb broke free and lofted a shot over D&E goalkeeper Cameron Rivera to cut the lead to 2-1.

But goals by Pucci and Oliver Bienias put the hosts back in front, 4-1, at intermission.

At the 57th minute, Branko Dugalic scored off of a Pucci assist. Seven minutes later, that tandem was reversed as Pucci scored on a header on a pass from Dugalic.

Gross-Puppendahl scored in the 77th minute on a Pucci assist for the final D&E score.

The D&E women were the aggressors at the outset of their 2-1 win over the Panthers.

The Senators (3-6, 3-0) had four shots over the first 13 minutes, including a shot by Taylor Morton that hit the post.

KWC took the momentum from there with crisper passing and controlled the field for much of the first half. Good defense and a couple saves from Senator
