Dramatic win helps Colts jump to 11th
Philip Barbour’s dramatic win over Elkins last Friday night proved to be valuable in the latest SSAC ratings released on Tuesday.
The Colts (5-2) jumped four spots into an 11th-place tie with Nicholas County.
Philip Barbour rallied past the Tigers, 29-28, when Justin Cox caught a deflected pass and raced 38 yards for the score late in the fourth quarter.
Another Class AAA school, Buckhannon-Upshur, will visit George Byrer Field this Friday.
Wayne, Frankfort, Bluefield, Bridgeport and Sissonville make up the top five in Class AA.
Petersburg is in the playoff hunt, meanwhile, after upsetting Southern (Md.) and moving to 20th in the ratings.
Lewis County, winners of five straight games, is 12th in Class AAA, while Huntington is No. 1.
A battle of Hardy County will have major Class A playoff implications this Friday when No. 6 Moorefield visits No. 7 East Hardy.
Despite two straight losses, Tucker County (4-3) is still rated 16th. The Mountain Lions are idle this week.
St, Marys is No. 1 in Class A, followed by Madonna, Valley Fayette, Man and Williamstown to round out the top five.
