Elkins girls earn tie with Indians

The Elkins High School girls earned a 1-1 tie with Bridgeport Thursday night in Big 10 Conference soccer play at the EHS field.

The Tigers found the net first when Olivia Underwood beat the goalie one-on-one with about 12:00 remaining in the first half. The Indians answered back in the second half when Jacquelyn Wolf scored the game- tying goal.

“Bridgeport is a good team, so to walk away with a tie isn’t too bad,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “The game was very hard fought with lots of shots on goal by both teams.

“Our four defenders did a very good job tonight of holding back the Bridgeport attack. Now we have a big game on Saturday at Hampshire to determine the number one seed in our sectional tournament.”

Elkins (10-3-2) will visit the Trojans at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Bridgeport’s record is now 11-2-3 on the season.

In the boys’ contest, Nicholas Strogen scored off a corner kick by Griffen Moon in the second half to give Bridgeport a 1-0 victory over the Tigers.

Tyler Gray was in goal for Elkins, while Noah Rhine tended net for the Indians, who improved to 10-4-3.

Elkins dropped to 8-7-2 and will travel to sectional foe Hampshire at 3 p.m. Saturday.
