Elkins High School Alumni Association hosts open house

Hundreds of residents passed through the Elkins High School Alumni Association Open House Friday evening at the Elkins Post 29 American Legion Hall to reacquaint and have a good time.

Members of several classes gathered to share laughs and stories of the old days, as well as help themselves to a variety of food and soft drinks along with chips and dip. They were also entertained during the evening by singer, Cindy Ulrich.

There also were 50/50 drawings and a chance to win a 19″ LED TV.

Clark Martin, class of 1981, commented that the Alumni Association has been holding these open houses during the Forest Festival since the early 1990s, and that all alumni and friends are welcome. He also mentioned the event was held in the past at The Old Brick Playhouse but it has since outgrown that venue.

The purpose of the Alumni Association is to help out the school in any way it can, whether it be academics, the arts, or athletics. Recently, the group has raised funds to pave the area behind the school’s cafeteria and made a partial payment for a new basketball scoreboard.

The organization also funds four scholarships by renting billboards for $100 annually to local businesses at Wimer Stadium.

The president of the Alumni Association, Delores Rosier, is hopeful more individuals will join the group. Yearly memberships are $10 and lifetime memberships are $100. If you are interested in joining please contact President Rosier at (304) 636-4172 or email her at delrho@frontier.com.

The EHS Alumni Association meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Western Steer restaurant on the Beverly five-lane.
