Elkins volleyball teams down NM

The Elkins High School volleyball team visited North Marion on Tuesday with both the junior varsity and varsity squads winning.

The JV team won in three sets (25-15, 22-25, 25-23) and the varsity prevailed in straight sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-23).

The junior varsity featured good service games from Korri Evans, Marrisa Jennings and Bailey Young, all with six aces. Jerrah Reams also contributed with five aces.

Coach Penny Crawford said, “I’m very proud of them. It was their first match win.”

In the varsity match, Taylor Miller led the way with three aces and 17 kills; Kayla Simmons had three aces and eight kills; Cassie Plishka had five kills; and Lakin Hitt had three aces and four kills.

“It was an excellent team effort, they are finally starting to work together,” said Crawford. “It was really fun to watch tonight.”

The Tigers volleyball team’s next match is at Preston County on Monday at 7 p.m.
