Battler spikers fall in tourney
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Alderson Broaddus women’s volleyball team was eliminated from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Volleyball Championships with Friday evening’s 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 21-25) loss to Cedarville University.
The first set loss featured seven ties and four lead changes, but ABU fell short 21-25. The Battlers (20-14) took advantage of a .000 hitting percentage by Cedarville to take the second set 25-17. ABU took an early 4-1 lead in the third set, but the Yellow Jackets (22-14) rallied for the 25-18 decision. Cedarville picked up the decisive set four win and overcame a 9-2 deficit for the win.
Megan Christmann (New Carlisle, Ohio) led ABU with 10 kills and tallied four digs. Victoria Morgan (Ontario, Canada) recorded six block assists for the Battlers and hit .444.
Kayla Peterson (West Liberty, Ohio) racked up 22 assists and Jillian Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) paced ABU with 23 digs.
Cedarville’s Hannah Wagner led the Yellow Jackets with 10 kills and compiled a .296 hitting percentage. Stephanie Rogers and Abby Shelton each tallied nine kills.
ABU recorded eight team blocks in the loss and Cedarville recorded 8.5.
