D&E men get first win of the season

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Davis & Elkins men’s basketball team registered a 61-58 win over Quincy on Saturday to earn Chris Cottrell’s first victory as a head coach.

Juwan Strothers led a balanced Senator attack with nine points. Alex Visiljevic pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Chris Babbitt (14), Scott Hahn (14) and Austin Webber (13) all reached double figures for Quincy.

D&E will travel to Lock Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wesleyan splits tilts

FAIRMONT – West Virginia Wesleyan went 1-1 at the Joe Retton Classic held over the weekend at Fairmont State University.

The Bobcats lost a 70-66 loss to Virginia State on Saturday before defeating Bowie State, 81-75, on Sunday.

In the loss to Virginia State, T.J. Thompson had 21 points, while he hit for 24 on Sunday. Elon transfer Brett Ervin and Chris Dewberry both added 17 points.

Wesleyan will host Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday.

Women’s games

Lake Erie 98, D&E 85

ELKINS – Lake Erie’s Jackie Murray scored 23 points, including seven treys, in a 98-85 victory over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon.

Stephanie Wooten had 16 points, Ashley Bowles 15 and Hannah Carl 12 for the Senators (0-2).

Jodie Jindra (15), Chloe Irish (14) and Kaeding Skelton (14) all turned out double figures for LEC.

D&E will host Pitt.-Johnstown on Tuesday.

Walsh 73, AB 58

ELKINS – Walsh University defeated the Alderson Broaddus women’s basketball team, 73-58, Saturday afternoon at the McDonnell Center.

The Battlers (0-2) were led by Sydney with eight points and four assists. Rachel Ashley added seven rebounds and seven points in the loss.

Jalynn Graham compiled 17 points and had eight rebounds for the Cavaliers (2-0). She also recorded 13 steals and seven blocks.

ABU will travel to Wesleyan on Nov. 19 for its next game.
