D&E men to host G-MAC tourney

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins men’s soccer team claimed the top spot and hosting rights for the G-MAC Tournament, with a 2-1 victory over Salem International Saturday at Nuttall Field.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Vukasin Terzic in the 23rd minute. Bastien Catrin netted the equalizer in the 37th minute with a well-placed header, knotting the game at 1-1 by the close of the first half. James Pucci knocked in the game-winner in the 58th minute to seal the 2-1 win for D&E.

Cameron Rivera made seven saves to earn his 10th victory of the season.

D&E held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots, with each team placing seven on goal.

The G-MAC tournament will begin on Thursday. The Senators will face Salem International. Game time has not yet been released.

College volleyball

Cedarville 3, D&E 0

ELKINS – League-leader, Cedarville, posted a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-18) win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon.

Alexis Mourier and Natalie Mathieu led the way for Davis & Elkins with six kills each. Alicia Stokes notched 12 assists, while Kelsey Richards posted 16 digs.

The Senators will host Alderson Broaddus at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

College swimming

D&E falls

URBANA, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins swim teams fell in a tri-meet to both Lake Erie and Urbana.

The Senator men fell to Urbana by a score of 143-96 and dropped a 160-90 decision to the Storm.

Xander Garcia finished second in the 1000 freestyle (10:36.99). Holden Easterbrook posted a third- place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:00.43).

Sam McDaniels registered third-place finishes in the 100 (1:02.42) and 200 (2:20.67) breaststroke. Nick Hiatt swam second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.21). Austin Pillado notched third in the 500 freestyle (5:15.70).

The men’s 200 medley relay team of Ryan O’Connell, McDaniels, Zayd Othman and Ty Montemoino notched a third-place finish (1:41.75). McDaniels, Othman, Montemoino and Colton Allen swam third in the 400 freestyle relay.

Urbana (122-83) and Lake Erie (147-82) downed the D&E women’s team.

Kendal Williams swam a 12:18.52 in the 1000 freestyle to notch a second-place finish. Autumn Wunderlich posted second- place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:21. 48) and the 200 backstroke (2:22.65) Brooke Bielecki registered runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.83) and the 100 freestyle (56.09).

D&E will host Fairmont State, Hollins and H. Sydney on Saturday.
