D&E men up mark to 4-1

ELKINS – The Davis &?Elkins men’s basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 75-72 win at Chowan, N.C., on Saturday.

Bruce Komakech, Wesley Sprinkle and Devin Miller each posted 14 points for the Senators, who held the Hawks without a field goal over the final 3:46 of regulation. Alex Visiljevic added 13 points and Juwan Strothers chipped in with 12 points. Miller finished with a game-high four assists.

Phoenix Butler-Poole had 26 points and 14 rebounds for Chowan. Tiron Brown (14) and Ashante Ross (13) also finished in double figures.

D&E will return to action at 8 p.m. Friday at Bluefield State.

Fairmont?State 70, Wesleyan 57

FAIRMONT – Brendan Cooper fired in 21 points to lead Fairmont State to the victory in the Mountain East Conference opener for both teams.

Alexander Djordjevic had 16 points off the bench and T.J. Thompson 11 to lead the Bobcats (2-3).

Stevie Browning (15) and Martins Abele also reached double figures for the Falcons (4-0).

Wesleyan will host Shepherd at 7:30 p.m. today for another MEC contest.

Women’s game

Fairmont State 75, Wesleyan 42

FAIRMONT – Hallie Gunnoe had 19 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to power Fairmont State to a 75-42 MEC win over Wesleyan on Saturday.

Hailey Garrett added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Makenzie White tallied 14 pointsm six assists and four helpers for the Falcons (3-1, 1-0 MEC).

The Bobcats (1-2, 0-1) were paced by Brittany Williams with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kacey Johnson chipped in 11 points.

Wesleyan will entertain Shepherd at 5:30 p.m. today in MEC play.
