Moorefield to entertain Eagles today
MOOREFIELD – Thanks to Magnolia’s upset of No. 3 Valley-Fayette last week, Moorefield will get another home playoff game today.
The sixth-seed Yellow Jackets and Blue Eagles will square off at 1:30 p.m. in Class A quarterfinal action.
Both squads feature impressive offensive weapons.
Wil Schoonover, a sophomore, has rushed for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns this season for Moorefield (10-1), while quarterback Dakota Vetter has completed 65 of 111 passes for 1,274 yards with 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Matt Dolan has been the team’s top target, catching 21 passes for 562 yards and nine scores.
No. 14 Magnolia (7-4) will counter with Drew Keller, who has rushed for nearly 1,400 yards and scored 16 times. Quarterback Jake Brill enters the game with 1,022 yards through the air and 11 touchdown passes.
Eric Smith is the leading receiver with 33 catches for 582 yards and seven scores.
The Yellow Jacket defense, led by Brandon Riggleman, held Meadow Bridge’s Jake Parker in check last week, holding the state’s leading rusher to just 137 yards, 100 below his average.
Riggleman, a senior tackle, has more than 100 stops this season.
