Tucker to visit Dons in rematch

PARSONS – Tucker County will be looking to pull off the upset today at top-ranked Madonna in first round action of the Class A playoffs.

Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Jimmy Carey Stadium in Weirton.

The Mountain Lions (6-4) enter the contest as the 16th seed, and were No. 1 when the teams squared off in last year’s semifinals won by the Blue Dons, 20-14, in double OT.

Austin Zirk has been the workhorse for the Tucker County offense. In just six games, he has rushed for over 1,000 yards, primarly from the quarterback spot.

Zirk and fullback Zach Armstrong are the lone skill players to start in last year’s game against Madonna.

The Blue Dons (10-0) counter with all-state quarterback Ross Comis, who threw for 254 yards and passed for an additional 176 in last week’s win over Clay-Battelle.

Running back Elliott Nero and wide receiver Will Bowser are other offensive threats.

The winner of today’s game will face either Clay-Battelle or Wahama in the quarterfinals.
