Walsh rallies for 81-77 win over D&E in Challenge play

ELKINS – Audrey Badovick scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the second half as Walsh University rallied for an 81-77 win over Davis & Elkins in first game of the G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge Friday night at the McDonnell Center.

The Cavs trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking the lead for good a trey from Rachael Trujillo that made it 60-57 with 8:31 left in regulation. The lead grew to as many as seven points before the Senators tied the game at 75 on a basket by Stephanie Wooten with 1:11 remaining.

But Walsh closed the game on a 6-2 run, including a pair of free throws by Badovick with five seconds left that gave the visitors an 81-77 advantage.

Rachel Funderburgh added 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Whitney Dabbelt 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs.

Wooten had 16 points and Alicia Lentz nine points and 12 rebounds for the Senators, who will face Lake Erie at 3:30 p.m. today, while Walsh meets Alderson Broaddus at 5:30 p.m.

In Friday’s second game, Lake Erie cruised past the Battlers, 57-33.

Chloe Irish came off the bench to score 11 points for the Storm, while Chrissy Delaney added 10.

Nautica Davis tallied 10 points for AB.

Both teams shot below 33 percent from the floor and combined for 48 turnovers, 32 committed by the Battlers.

Men’s game

Lake Erie 76, D&E 66

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Davis & Elkins opened the season with a 76-66 loss to Lake Erie Friday in All-American Club Classic play being held at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Devin Miller came off the bench to score 19 points to lead the Senators. Tivius Guthrie added 13, Juwan Strothers 12 and Bruce Komakech 11.

Riley Thomas had 17 points, Nick Wells 13 and Michael Morris 10 for Lake Erie.

D&E will face Quincy at 5:30 p.m. today.
