Elkins Middle teams win double-header

KASSON The Elkins Middle School teams traveled to Kasson for a double-header on Monday evening. Both EMS teams claimed victories, with the boys winning 44-26, and the girls prevailing by 36-15.

Zach Shreve led the EMS boys with 11 points, and was closely followed by Mason Kelley with 10.

Noah Price scored 11 points for Kasson.

The Hornets ended the first quarter with a 13-7 lead and outscored their hosts in every stanza.

EMS Coach Ross Ware was pleased, saying after the contest, “We took care of the ball, didn’t make many mistakes, and made our shots, so I’d say it was a good game.”

In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets took a commanding 20-8 lead into halftime and never looked back.

Susan Riggleman scored 14 for Elkins, followed by Mackenzie Guy with 12 points.

Alexis Marsh was the high scorer for Kasson with seven points.

Elkins Middle School will host Philippi Middle School tonight in a boys and girls double-header starting at 6 p.m.

Green Bank 25, Mountain View 22

GREEN BANK The Green Bank Middle School Eagles hosted Mountain View Monday night in girls basketball and posted a close 25-22 victory.

The Eagles started out strong, taking an 11-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but by halftime led only by two points, 13-11.

The second half was close throughout, but the home team held on for the win.

Aliza Carr and Marlee Mclaughlin scored 12 and eight points respectively for Green Bank, while Lakin Castillo and Marcy Smith led Mountain View with eight and six.

In the junior varsity game, it was Mountain View that came out on top, 30-12.

Emily Galford and Morgan Wylie each had 10 points for the visitors, and Alexa Taylor put up seven for Green Bank.

The Eagles’ next game is on Jan. 6 at Elkins Middle School at 6 p.m.
