Moorefield boys turn up defense in victory

MOOREFIELD – Moorefield held Frankfort without a point in the second quarter en route to a 58-44 victory on Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) trailed 15-11 after the opening quarter before outscoring the Falcons 9-0 in the second. The run turned into a 21-0 surge at the start of the third quarter as the lead increased to 39-25 entering the final quarter.

“We made a nice run from the second quarter into the third,” Moorefield coach Pat McGregor said. “It was all about defense for us tonight, especially from Dylan George. “He played an outstanding game for us and got us going in the right direction.”

Aaron Cole led the Yellow Jackets with 23 points and seven rebounds.

Tyler Smith also reached double figures with 10 points.

Chase Detrick had 24 points for Frankfort (0-2).

Moorefield will entertain Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Pendleton 80, East Hardy 67

BAKER – Logan Cooper ripped the nets for 29 points as Pendleton County claimed an 80-67 win over East Hardy Tuesday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Hayden Fox added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, who improved to 2-1.

Michael Miller led the Cougars (0-2) with 19 points.

Pendleton County will host Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while East Hardy will visit Tucker County on the same evening.

Monday’s late game

Notre Dame 62, Tucker 53

CLARKSBURG – Cal Cistaro tossed in 27 points as Notre Dame claimed a 62-53 victory over Tucker County on Monday night.

The Irish (1-1) led 26-23 at the intermission and 43-37 after three quarters.

The Mountain Lions came no closer than three points in the final frame.

Justin Goff added 15 points and Kolby Abruzzino 10 for Notre Dame.

Ian Nichols fired in a game-high 31 points to pace Tucker County, which dropped to 1-1 on the season.

The Mountain Lions will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Petersburg.
