Tucker girls top Petersburg

PETERSBURG – Stephanie Betler scored 12 points to lead Tucker County past Petersburg, 51-36, in Potomac Valley Conference action Monday.

Although the Lady Mountain Lions got the win, coach Jim Ambrose wasn’t happy with the team’s performance.

“We didn’t play very well,” Ambrose said. “We had a couple of days off and we were a little rusty. We hadn’t played in a week and we had a couple of bad practices. So I was concerned going in. We ended up

winning, but we’ve got to play better. There’s no doubt about it.”

Senior Becca Simmons and junior Aiyana Kachmarek both scored 10 points in the contest. Kachmarek also added seven rebounds and six blocked shots.

For the Lady Vikings, senior Brittani Bible led the team with 15 points. Freshman Lauren Flemming added 11 points.

Tucker County returns to action on Jan. 3 at home against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. Petersburg will play Berkeley Springs at home on Jan. 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
