B-U girls topple Liberty, 49-26
CLARKSBURG – Courtney Reed and Makayla Reynolds reached double digits in scoring Wednesday to lift Buckhannon-Upshur over Liberty, 49-26, in Big 10 Conference action.
“Considering we haven’t played or practiced in about a week and a half, I think we played pretty well,” Bucs coach Tristen Gray said, referring to the Jan. 18 victory over Hampshire. “We played very well defensively. The girls had a goal, they wanted to hold Liberty under 20 points. We gave up 12 points in the fourth quarter, so they came really close.”
B-U took a 25-12 lead into the locker room at half time. The second half didn’t get much better for Liberty. The Lady Bucs dominated the third quarter, holding Liberty to three points.
“At halftime, the girls decided they were going to do whatever it takes to keep them from scoring,” Gray said. “They really did their best. I’m very proud of the way they played, especially without playing for such a long time.”
Reed paced B-U with 16 points. She also had three assists and grabbed four rebounds. Reynolds scored 13 points and had six rebounds.
Madison Riley and Autumn Jones had nine points each for Liberty.
The Bucs are slated to visit Grafton today.
