Pocahontas girls get past Bulldogs
MILL CREEK – Tristin Day scored 25 points Tuesday to lift Class A, No. 5 Pocahontas County past No. 7 Tygarts Valley, 60-46, Tuesday night in Potomac Valley Conference play.
“We didn’t shoot the ball very well tonight, especially from the free-throw line,” Bulldogs coach Mike DiPasquale said. “The girls played hard, we just couldn’t convert from the foul line and it killed us.
“We outplayed them and outhustled them, but we just couldn’t make the shots.”
Senior Paige Pritt led the Bulldogs (6-2) in scoring with 16 points. Kelsey Arbogast contributed 13 points, including four 3-pointers.
Emily Pingley added eight points and 12 rebounds.
For the Warriors, Melissa Murphy scored 12 points and Sarah Ryder added nine points.
Day nailed five 3-pointers as part of her game-high point total on the evening.
Lorena Rose also collected nine rebounds as Pocahontas County held a 32-23 advantage on the boards.
Bobbie McNabb, meanwhile, finished with six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots in an all-around strong performance.
The Warriors never trailed in the game after using a pair of treys from Day to start the game.
Tygarts Valley will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the road at Moorefield for another PVC contest.
Pocahontas County (7-2) will visit PVC foe Pendleton County on the same night.
