Wesleyan men race past Pioneers

GLENVILLE – Wesleyan placed four players in double figures to register an 87-78 win over Glenville State Thursday night in Mountain East Conference play.

T.J. Thompson poured in 23 points to lead the Bobcats, while Brett Ervin added 19, Aleksandar Djordjevic 12 and Chris Dewberry 11 off the bench.

Djordjevic also dished out seven assists and Tanner McGrew grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Wesleyan darted out to a 40-31 lead at the intermission before opening up its largest lead of the game on a layup by McGrew with 7:46 remaining.

The Pioneers (9-6, 6-5 MEC) cut the deficit to 85-76 on a pair of free throws by Donte Morales with 20 seconds left but came no closer.

Morales finished with 23 points to pace Glenville State. Reggie Williams added 18 and Lamar Mallory 17.

The victory gives the Bobcats a 12-7 overall mark and 7-4 slate in MEC contests. They will travel to U.Va.-Wise at 4 p.m. Saturday for another league contest.

Women’s game

Glenville St. 122, Wesleyan 64

GLENVILLE?- No. 11 Glenville State forced 29 Wesleyan turnovers and drilled 22 three-pointers en route to an easy MEC victory.

Tiffani Huffman lead the Pioneers (15-2, 10-1 MEC) with 23 points, followed by Pagie Tuttle and Kenyell Goodson with 14 each. Tasia Bistow also had 10 points and eight assists.

Allie Browne tallied 14 points and Kiki DeVane 13 for the Bobcats (2-13, 0-11), who will travel to U.Va.-Wise at 2 p.m. Saturday.
