Yellow Jackets sting Cougars
Chris Paugh exploded for 21 points off the bench Monday to power Moorefield past East Hardy, 66-43, in Potomac Valley Conference action.
“Our defense played an amazing first half,” Moorefield coach Pat McGregor said. “It was a career night for Chris Paugh. He came off the bench and did a really nice job controlling the boards.”
Moorefield held the Cougars to 13 points in the first half. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded East Hardy 40-17 in the contest.
“Offensively, we didn’t shoot well from the perimeter,” McGregor said. “We did do a good job inside, however. Tyler Smith did a good job with the dribble, drive and kick out. That’s where he got a lot of his assists.”
Smith finished the game with a double-double, scoring 15 points and racking up 10 assists. Sophomore forward Greg Franklin also had a big game with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Michael Miller led the Cougars in scoring with 11 points. Adam Holliday added 10 points.
East Hardy returns to action today against Paw Paw. Moorefield travels to Pendleton County on Wednesday. Tipoff for both contests begin at 7:30 p.m.
