AB men capture G-MAC banner
SALEM – Alderson Broaddus secured the G-MAC regular-season title with a 69-60 win over Salem International on Tuesday night.
The Battlers improved to 20-5 overall and 12-1 in league games. They will host the conference’s postseason tournament, which begins March 6.
Richard Lemon fired in 28 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead AB, which used a 7-0 run to take a 33-20 lead at halftime.
Adam Kline added 14 point and seven rebounds, while Malcolm Tatum finished with 12 points.
The Battler defense held the Tigers’ leading scorer Walter Brock to just eight points, 11 below his average. He fouled out with 15:24 remaining in the contest.
Abel Tillman had 18 points and Darius Roper 11 to lead Salem, which connected on just 31.9 percent of its field-goal attempts.
The Battlers led by as many as 15 points in the second half before the Tigers got to within 45-37 on Freddy Edeouard’s conventional 3-pointer with 10:25 left in regulation.
But AB themn embarked on an 18-10 surge and never led by less than nine points the remainder of the game.
The Battlers will conclude the regular season at 4 p.m. Saturday at rival Davis &?Elkins College.
AB 40, Salem International 33
The Alderson Broaddus women wrapped up the seventh seed in the upcoming G-MAC tournament in a win over Salem International on Tuesday.
Mariah James had eight points for the Battlers, who trailed 16-15 at the intermission.
Tashay Smith had 16 points for the Tigers. Salem’s starting five played the entire game.
AB will visit Davis &?Elkins at 2 p.m. Saturday to conclude regular-season play.
