Moorefield boys surge past TVHS

MOOREFIELD – Aaron Cole fired in 21 points to lead Moorefield to a 64-48 win over Tygarts Valley Thursday night in PVC action.

The game was deadlocked at 9 at the end of the first quarter before the Yellow Jackets surged ahead 23-17 entering the intermission break.

Moorefield carried a 40-34 lead into the fourth before pulling way with a 24-point output in the final canto.

Austin Williams added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets (7-12).

Ben Sycafoose paced the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Moorefield will conclude the regular season at 7:30 p.m. today at Pocahontas County.

Tygarts Valley, meanwhile, finished the regular season 9-11 with a mark and will host Union at 6 p.m. Saturday in first-round play of the Class A, Region II, Section 1 tourney.

B-U 70, Pocahontas 51

TENNERTON – Thomas Kotol scored 19 points as Buckhannon-Upshur closed the regular season with a win over Pocahontas County.

“We shot the ball really well,” Bucs coach Eli Gurash said. “It was one of our best shooting performances all season.We came out hot and kept a cushion for the whole game. We didn’t start to pull away until the fourth quarter.”

Kotol opened the game by nailing three 3-pointers in the first quarter. B-U held a 32-23 advantage at halftime.

“We really had some guys step up tonight,” Gurash said. “We only dressed eight players because we have some kids sick and some injured. They got a lot of minutes, but they did a good job and hung in there.”

Sophomore Joshua Trent tallied 13 points and three rebounds for the Bucs. Zane Clevenger contributed 11 points and three assists. Jordan Look scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Junior Stephen Mick led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points.

B-U will travel to Lewis County in Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 play at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
