Preston knocks off B-U

TENNERTON – Megan Wilfong and Makayla Reynolds both recorded double doubles Wednesday but it wasn’t enough as Buckhannon-Upshur dropped a 40-36 decision to Big 10 foe Preston on Wednesday.

“The first half was remarkable, because both teams were held to less than 30 points combined,” Bucs coach Tristen Gray said. “We had trouble getting the ball to fall. Preston also had the same problem. At halftime, we focused our talk on offense. I’m proud of the way they responded. We cut it to two points with about a minute to go, but we let it slip out of our fingers. If we could have eliminated the turnovers, we probably would have won the game.”

The Knights led 16-13 at halftime.

Wilfong scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Bucs (6-12). Reynolds added 15 points and 12 boards.

The Bucs will host Lewis County at 4 p.m. Saturday.
